What To Say When People Keep Looking At You
Has it ever happened to you that you’ve been waiting for something or someone, minding your own business and someone kept looking at you? Maybe you were standing at the bus station, waiting for your bus to come and someone else who was also standing there, kept looking at you.
This has happened to me so many times and at first it made me feel very uncomfortable.
It made me become very self-conscious and my anxiety usually went through the roof.
My mind started racing and I came up with so many negative thoughts and difficult questions.
What does that person want?
Why is she looking at me?
Is there something wrong with me?
Is my hair messed up?
Do I have a stain on my pants?
Is there something on my face?
Is there something in my teeth?
Do I know her? Should I say, “Hi?”
All these questions only escalated my anxiety and the social anxiety symptoms that go along with it.
I started sweating, blushing and sometimes even shaking.
If that’s something that keeps happening to you to, you might want to follow me and do what I did and still do.
Look back at them and smile.
If they smile back, you can initiate a conversation. Sometimes they might initiate a conversation themselves.
In either case, you might befriend someone new. And if you don’t befriend them, at least your waiting time won’t be that boring anymore.
Now in worst case, they won’t react to your smile at all.
It only means that they are not comfortable talking to strangers and it only shows their insecurity.
It has nothing to do with you or how you look.
So when someone keeps looking at you, just look back at them and smile.
Now, if you’re afraid that you won’t know what to say next, you might want to check out this post I made a while ago. It’s about what to say when your mind goes blank during conversations.
