The Right Attitude To Have At A Job Interview
Job interviews can be very stressful especially because you know beforehand that you’re going to be judged and evaluated.
No one likes to be put under the spotlight and examined by strangers who only have their own interests in mind. And yet that’s exactly what’s going on at job interviews.
They want to know if you’re the right person for that job. They want to know if you’re a good fit for their organization.
And your job at the interview is to impress and build some sort of connection.
Now how can you do that?
How can you impress the human resource guy or gal when you’re all anxious?
Well, your best bet is to have the right attitude towards getting that job.
But what is the right attitude to have if you want to minimize your nervousness and maximize your chances of nailing that interview?
Simply put, you need to show them that you want that job but in a way that shows that you don’t need it.
What do I mean with this?
Well, they need to see that you want the job.
They need to see that you care about their company and that you care about that job position.
You need to show them that you can do what the job requires you to do and you need to show that you’re enthusiastic about doing that.
Basically, you want to feed their ego needs.
You see, they are proud of their company and they want someone who’s going to be proud of it as well. They want someone who will fit in perfectly.
However, on the other hand you need to also have the attitude of not needing that job.
You see, neediness will not get you the job.
They are not hiring someone who needs them. They are hiring someone that can fulfill their needs. That’s why they won’t hire you if you’re needy.
Another reason why you have to believe that you don’t desperately need that job is that the mere fact that you don’t have to get that job makes you feel more relaxed.
And when you’re relaxed you can actually perform better.
When you get asked unpleasant and tricky questions you can come up with witty answers much more easily if you’re calm and collected.
So the key to nailing the job interview is in the right attitude.
However, keep in mind that there’s no guarantee that this will get you the job. After all, there might be someone else applying for that job that is simply put a better fit than you.
Don’t let this discourage you. It’s a numbers game. You can’t expect to go to one job interview and get the job the first time you apply.
You might need to apply for quite a few job positions before you get that job.
